In other news, the commission received an update from Julia Orr, executive director of Molly’s Angels, a service organization that provides transportation and support services to local seniors over the age of 60, which has continued to operate through much of the pandemic.
Orr said that, even with a brief pause, the organization managed to provide 3,094 free rides to seniors through 2020. And this year, the organization had provided 3,245 rides by the end of September.

Meet Some of Napa Valley's Philanthropy Leaders
Fran Miller, Napa Life Magazine
July 26, 2021

In today’s society, we are blessed with various forms of philanthropy and different ways to achieve a philanthropic culture. When people hear the term philanthropy, they often assume it refers to donors of charities and non-profit organizations. While some of the world’s top philanthropists are best known for donating money to a worthy cause, philanthropy also refers to charitable acts such as donating time, effort, expertise, or other good works to help others or society as a whole. The year 2020 has been and continues to be filled with challenges – especially for older adults, caregivers and people with disabilities.
Even the most robust have been cut off from volunteer work, families and friends. As the project manager for the Napa/Solano Area Agency on Aging, I am privileged to partner with incredible, caring organizations and individuals who are turning challenges into opportunities.

Molly's Angels provides free food to Napa County seniors during pandemic
Jennifer Huffman, The Napa Valley Register & American Canyon Eagle

Holding three bags of groceries he’d just picked up from outside Nob Hill Foods, Kevin Eason was a man on a mission.
His goal was to deliver the food to a senior citizen who lives in a housing complex on Redwood Road. There was just one problem. This resident wasn’t answering her phone.
Eason called her again. Nothing. Next, he dialed his contact at Molly’s Angels.Try again, said Julia Orr, the executive director of the nonprofit. He did, and this time – bingo – success.

Vietnam vet 'serves' by driving seniors for Molly's Angels in Napa Valley
Cynthia Sweeney, The Napa Valley Register & Weekly Calistogan
Feb 19, 2020

Serving as a Marine in Vietnam in the early 1960s, Greg Lake saw a lot of action. In less than a year, he led 226 patrols as the point man, leading fellow soldiers through hostile, unsecured territory, regularly dodging sniper fire and watching out for booby traps.
Now, at 75, he lives in Calistoga and regularly drives for Molly’s Angels, taking seniors to their doctor appointments for free.
According to Lake, from a service point of view, the path from Vietnam to volunteer driving is not such a stretch. "Marines get things done,” he said. Read the full article click here.

Molly's Angels needs Upvalley Drivers
Betty Rhodes, The Weekly Calistogan
Jan 28, 2020

Good morning. I have good news for anyone who knows Molly’s Angels and the amazing work that they do through free rides for Napa County seniors. They are in need of drivers from the upper valley, Calistoga and St. Helena. When we received word from Julia Orr, Molly’s Angels executive director, of the dire need for Upvalley volunteer drivers, we dropped everything. Those of us who are interested in anything to do with our Napa Valley seniors knows and holds with deep respect the good work that Molly’s Angels does for our seniors, and a call for help from them is not to be ignored. Muriel Synder is 96 years old and she thinks anyone who’s made it that far has mighty good reason to celebrate.
Synder volunteers at Napa nonprofit Molly’s Angels. She’s part of the telephone reassurance program, where she and others make weekly check-in calls to seniors.
From those calls, Synder said she began to realize how many of those seniors were also in their 90s.

Our next exciting news is from Molly’s Angel’s new executive director, Julia Orr. I met her recently and asked her what she might like to share about Molly’s Angel’s and some of the changes she might be making.
Happily, they are expanding their Transportation and Telephone Reassurance Programs to service more seniors in the Napa County area.
Julia tells us: “It is very easy to sign up with us, we just need some personal information and emergency contact info and that is it. Molly’s Angels offers free rides to seniors 60-plus and disabled individuals who are ambulatory to and from medical appointments both in and out of Napa County.

T
Molly’s Angels is a wonderful organization, their volunteers dedicated to assisting seniors who are unable to get to medical appointments on their own. This group of empathetic people is a lifesaver for many seniors. Their services are free and their volunteer drivers are always friendly and helpful.
It can be difficult for independent seniors to ask for help but no one needs to feel that way when calling Molly’s Angels. They will do their best to accommodate your needs and never make you feel “less than.”
I hope Napa Valley residents will open their hearts and wallets to Molly’s Angels by making a donation in the spirit of the season to an organization that is critical to the needs of many of our senior citizens, including myself.

Working together to help seniors

Nonprofits do a tremendous amount of good work in the Napa Valley, but they can accomplish even more when they team up.
That’s one of the lessons of a new collaborative effort among the St. Helena Hospital Foundation, Molly’s Angels and Rianda House that’s helping underserved seniors get to their medical appointments.
Under a $5,000 pilot project funded by the hospital foundation, seniors who need a ride to a medical appointment at St. Helena Hospital or one of the local Adventist Health clinics can call Molly’s Angels – a nonprofit that specializes in senior transportation – and get a free ride either from a volunteer or through the Lyft ride-sharing service. I wanted to express my warm gratitude to Molly's Angels for the wonderful volunteer work they perform on behalf of those who need medical treatment here in Napa and the surrounding areas.
The Angels consist of people who are willing to help others, and provide not only rides, but conversations, interactions, and even friendship to the people they take from their homes to their medical appointments. The experience isn't just helpful, it is pleasant.
The Angels are good conversationalists and genuinely care about the people they are helping. I can say this from experience as I've thoroughly enjoyed talking with all the people who have helped me, and those who have become my friends.
I encourage others to use this service, offered with kindness and for free to anyone who needs medical care and cannot drive themselves. I would also encourage others to volunteer to be a Molly's Angel, but only if you really want to, because the best part of this service is the genuine desire of the volunteers to make the simple task of going to a medical appointment an enjoyable one.

With that call to Molly’s Angels, I heard a reassuring, loving and caring voice. I was told not to worry; the angels would transport me. That voice was from Nicole.
Nicole has stayed true to her promise and so have all the Angeles involved in my two-to-three-times-per-week appointments. Every angel was always on time, cheerful, courteous, and at times humorous.

I’m writing about Molly's Angels, a nonprofit that has senior volunteers who drive other seniors to doctor appointments.
I was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and have to travel to Vallejo from Napa every Wednesday to receive my chemo treatments. Although I’ve used Molly’s Angels in the past, on occasion, for regular appointments, this is different.
They are a blessing as the side effects of chemo are bound to become more substantial. I am so very grateful that they are there for me, and I wanted to share my story so more people would see how wonderful a service it is.
And the drivers and admin staff couldn’t be more accommodating. They are very special.

My family and I have recently been the recipients of a wonderful volunteer service based in the Napa Valley called Molly's Angels.
Molly's Angels is staffed by volunteers who drive clients to medical appointments in the area - at no charge. This service is a pure gift to family members who live outside the Napa Valley but have a loved one who needs transportation to medical appointments from time to time.
They are cheerful, organized, reliable and are currently accepting new volunteer drivers and charitable contributions. I can't say enough good things about Molly's Angels and their dispatcher, Nicole.

There is an organization in Napa Valley that does not get recognized often enough and therefore people do not know about them the way they should.
That wonderful group of people is Molly's Angels.
These folks have dedicated themselves to helping their community through its senior citizens.
Let me tell you my story. My husband and I are seniors living in a mobile home park in American Canyon and have varied health issues. His major problem is Alzheimer's dementia and mine is emphysema. We also live on our Social Security checks. Read more about Patricia's story here.
