About Devereaux
About
Devereaux Smith is an experienced fundraising, operations, and communications professional with over 30 years of experience in for-profit and nonprofit institutions. She is a partner in the California-based communications firm, The Kamer Group, headquartered in the Napa Valley.
Operations and Real Estate Management
Devereaux began her career working as a legal assistant in the challenging REIT market of the early 1980s. Her team worked to transfer properties between multi-state owners and create corporate entities for transferring holdings.
Devereaux has a love of operations and facility development. She led a major project to relocate San Francisco's Town School for Boys from its Pacific Heights location to the iconic Palace of Fine Arts. The new location served as an interim site during significant construction at the original campus. Devereaux created the layout and allocated resources to develop a running school for 450 students, faculty, and staff.
Public Relations and Communications
She was a managing partner in a San Francisco public relations and public affairs firm. She moved on to run her own public relations and operations firm in the luxury goods market. She successfully produced cover stories and high-end placements for Ann Getty House, a museum-quality interior design firm. While focused in the luxury market, she created the launch program for Les Mars Hotel in Healdsburg, California.
Nonprofit and Fundraising
Devereaux led the development and fundraising team at The Bentley School in Oakland and Lafayette, California. As the Director of Development for four years at the K-12 institution, she directed annual giving, numerous fundraising events, and a capital campaign. She also established the weekly community newsletter and led all communication efforts.
She served as the Executive Director of The Charlotte Maxwell Clinic in Oakland, California, which for 30+ years has provided holistic medical care to low-income women with cancer, free of charge. In addition to working with the Board of Directors and community partners, she led the fundraising team for the Clinic, which was funded solely by private donors and foundations. After leaving the Clinic, Devereaux worked independently as the capital campaign consultant for The Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area.
Devereaux was the Director of Communications and Development at The Pathway Home, based in Yountville, California, a program serving veterans with PTSD. The organization provided education and reintegration programming. Sadly, that position lasted just a few months before the tragic shooting events of March 9, 2018.
Education
Devereaux has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Golden Gate University. She is also a Master Jam Maker with a Certificate from the Food Craft Institute in Oakland, California.
Giving Back
Devereaux has been an avid volunteer during her long career. She has been a Board member at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Bentley School, and To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation. She is an active Rotarian and believes in the importance of supporting the community.
