About Betty
My name is Betty Rhodes and I’m, happily, a new member of Molly’s Angels Board of Directors. My past history in volunteering began when I was asked to serve out someone’s term as a commissioner, representing District #4, on the Napa County Commission on Aging. (NCCOA was formed a number of years ago by the County Board of Supervisors to bring to their attention when there were issues with our senior population.)
I found that I enjoyed volunteering so much that I served with NCCOA for 20 years. While there, I served as Chair for two terms as well as serving as chair of a committee formed to encourage our county and city officials to see the need of requiring background checks and legal sanctions against those who provide care for the elderly without a permit. Happily, the cities and the county officials agreed, making Napa County the first County in California to require caregivers to have background checks and a permit to do business in Napa County. In 2009, I served as a councilmember on the Napa County Transportation & Planning Agency (NCTPA) now Napa County Vine Co. (NCVC where we were able to get a Shopping Shuttle going in Napa for seniors, who were unable to ride the regular buses. It was short lived and needed more back-up from NCTPA. Great fun while it lasted. I'm a past member of the Area Agency on Aging, Solano and Napa Counties. I presently serve with the Senior Advisory Commission which is advisory on matters regarding recreation activities at the Napa Senior Center. And, finally, I enjoy being a free-lance writer for the Napa Valley Register, St. Helena Star and the Weekly Calistogan. |
