Letter from Fran
Here we are already into February. Where does the time go? We are looking
forward to Spring and starting to plan our next Golf Tournament on September
22nd, another Wednesday. It seems that day works for most people. We are
lucky to again have Rich Enos as Executive Chairman, and KTVU Sports
personality, Mark Ibanez as Master of Ceremonies. This is our only fund-raiser
of the year, and if you would like to participate, please call us.
In the meantime, Molly's Angels continues our work of helping our Seniors and
the disabled in Napa County. We provide rides to and from medical, dental,
and other appointments, grocery shopping, visiting, etc. We take these people to
their surgeries and appointments, wait for them, and bring them home at no
charge.
At least 80 to 85% of these individuals are Kaiser patients. Because we only
have a clinic in Napa, any special tests or surgeries needed are performed in
Vallejo, Santa Rosa or Vacaville. We recently called Kaiser's Community
Benefits Program to see if we could possibly apply for a grant to help offset the
cost of gasoline and upkeep of our vehicles. We were told that we did not meet
their criteria, acknowledged the problem of Napans transportation to their
facilities in the other cities, but we were told their grants go to help the
uninsured.
Our question is "under whose criteria are these individuals covered?" I don't
mean to get on a soapbox, but sometimes we get frustrated trying to find the
funds to make ends meet. We understand this is a tough time for all, especially
non-profit organizations, and we want to thank all of our members, and
everyone that has supported us these past 11 years. We truly believe Molly's
Angels is necessary here in Napa County and hope we can continue to help our
citizens for many years to come.
Fran
